Red Ribbon Week
The message was loud and clear: say NO to drugs! Students and staff at Palmquist Elementary School took part in annual Red Ribbon Week activities this past week, as Drug Enforcement Agents (DEA) landed a helicopter on the playing fields of the schoolyard. Agents from the FBI, National Guard, and local police and fire agencies made presentations to help promote a safe and drug-free lifestyle. Students learned about the ill effects of drugs and a variety of professions that work to eliminate illicit drug use.
Red Ribbon Week was started after the kidnapping, torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena in 1985. Camarena had been working undercover in Guadalajara, Mexico for more than four years in the fight against drugs.
